Dear myheart members
Thank you to all members who helped raise awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and myheart last year. The hard copy newsletter featuring last year’s activities will be mailed to you shortly.
2016 has begun on a very exciting note for myheart . Whilst the myheart website was re-launched in January and has managed to gather a lot of attention, two of our members featured on the BBC Lifeline appeal in February to raise awareness.
BBC Lifeline Appeal
CRY and myheart are grateful to myheart members Sian Donnelly and James Bailey for agreeing to feature on BBC Lifeline and raising awareness of CRY’s work.
CRY Patron Pixie Lott presented our BBC Lifeline appeal. It’s a cause close to Pixie’s heart as her childhood dance teacher Matt Beadle died following a cardiac arrest.
The film featured the story of Adam Donnelly, a close friend of Pixie’s sister, who died suddenly when he was 17. Adam’s mother, Julie, and sister, Sian, talked about how CRY came to their aid in the wake of his death, and how the charity helped provide an answer to why they lost Adam so unexpectedly. CRY screened the rest of the family for heart conditions, and discovered that Sian also had an inherited heart condition. Sian wrote her story to be included in the myheart booklet which can be found here: www.myheart.org.uk/sian-donnelly
James Bailey, another myheart member and a football enthusiast, also featured on the programme. James was screened at a CRY screening on an otherwise regular day at school. He was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a potentially lethal heart condition, and told he’d have to stop playing sport immediately. James also wrote his story to be included in the myheart booklet which can be found here: www.myheart.org.uk/james-bailey

Response after myheart Website Re-Launched
As part of its 20th anniversary awareness and support initiatives, CRY re-launched its unique myheart website www.myheart.org.uk. I am pleased to say that many new members have joined since the launch.
Please let me apologise as we had a few technical issues at the beginning when some people were unable to register for the website. I can assure you that the issue has now been resolved and if you wish you can register for the members’ only area at: www.myheart.org.uk/register
The members’ only area on the website comprises:
- An online forum – a safe place where myheart members can connect with each other and discuss any issues or concerns relating to living with their diagnosis. It’s also a great place for members to gain support and discuss their experiences with other young people who have a cardiac condition.
- A members’ blog – a great way for members to share their stories, thoughts and experiences.
Please let me assure you about the confidentiality of the forum. You can ask any questions you like in the forum, or pen your thoughts in the blog for others to benefit.
I would be grateful if you can start any new topics in the forum if any question comes to your mind. The forum is exclusively for myheart members aged 16–35. Whilst CRY will moderate the forum, engagement in the forum is strictly members only. Bridges Walk 2016
Will you be joining us on Sunday 26th June for the 10th annual CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk?
This event offers the opportunity to show support for CRY, and raise awareness of inherited heart conditions and young sudden cardiac death.
You may have recently been diagnosed with a condition, or suffered the loss of a family member before being diagnosed yourself; whatever the reason you are welcome to walk with Team myheart.
