THERE'S A NEW BREED IN TOWN!

Endangered North Ronaldsay Sheep arrive at Roundoak in Kent

One of the UKs most endangered breed is the North Ronaldsay. There are only some 300 left in the UK.  Roundoak have acquired a small flock if 10 ewes and a ram to commence a specialist breeding program to build numbers up.
Roundoak is already home to over 500 Hebridean sheep and in excess of 70 Highland cows.  When Roundoak started breeding the Hebridean sheep they're were also on the endangered list.  According to the Rare Breed Society they are now off the endangered list.

The farm started with 16 Hebridean ewes and ram about 8 years ago and we now have one of the largest flocks of Hebridean sheep in the UK.  The farm supplies the lamb to many fine restaurants and eating establishments.  We also have many visitors to the farm that purchase the meat.  The Hebridean lamb has many qualities, it is lean and low in cholesterol similar to that of the North Ronaldsay's

It is hoped the new Roundoak North Ronaldsay flock will flourish and assist the farm with its conservation grazing program.  Hopefully numbers will build and the breed will not be lost forever.

For more information please click the link to our website www.roundoak-hebridean.co.uk or call 01622 844491.  Roundoak welcomes guests by prior appointment.  The farm will also be opening the gates on 8 June 2014 for the annual Open Farm Sunday where the North Ronaldsays will be on show.

COMING SOON - Roundoak Highland Beef & Hebridean lamb to be sold in Headcorn

Roundak have teamed up with Four Seasons quality fruit and vegetable suppliers located on Headcorn High Street to sell the farms quality meat.

The Four Seasons shop will have a dedicated freezer where the Roundoak produce can be purchased or orders can be taken, if customers would prefer fresh meat.

The farm already supplies lamb and beef to Luckhurst Butchers at Smarden and Listers at Lenham.

The Highland and Hebrideans are slow growing animals therefore the meat is very lean and low in cholesterol which is an important fact in todays modern living.

The farm is please with the new arrangement in Headcorn, which shows that networking between small local business is very much growing.  All that can be hoped is that small businesses get the support from the public so that they can continue.
